Has anyone gotten a perfect score on the DAT? ›

In short, a perfect overall score on the DAT is 30, but to the best of our knowledge, no one has ever achieved a perfect score. In theory, you would at least need to get every question right on the exam—a monumental task by itself—but even if you did, your final reported score would likely still fall short of 30.

The highest possible DAT score is 30. However, no one has ever actually achieved this “perfect” score. The ADA notes that there is no specific number of correct answers you need to achieve a particular score.

Generally speaking, you can only miss around 5-6 questions in each of the science and math sections to score a 20. Scores of over 23 are very rare (98th percentile and up). You can miss around 20 questions in the perceptual test to score a 20.

The average score for acceptance is around 20 AA.

This is just an average though, a quick look at the ADEA Guide to Dental Schools shows that students get accepted with lower scores as well! A good score is 20 AA and should be most students' goal. Scores of 23+ AA are rare and exceptionally competitive.

Some programs consider a score of 18 or higher to be competitive while others prefer applicants with a score of 20 or higher. To be most competitive for dental school admission, we advise students to aim for a score of 20 or higher in each section of the DAT.

The average DAT score for any section is approximately 19/30; the average AA for admissions is usually 18-21 depending on the dental school; the AA for admissions to Harvard is around 23-24; the 100th percentile is usually 25 meaning that virtually 100% of the approximately 13 000 students who take the DAT every year ...

To wrap up, when choosing between the DAT vs. MCAT, remember that the MCAT is usually more challenging due to its broader content. Base your choice on your career goals: DAT for dentists and MCAT for various medical fields.

Improve your DAT score

One of the best ways to compensate for a low GPA is by getting a high score on the Dental Admissions Test (DAT). Although GPA is a crucial factor when it comes to dental admissions, the DAT is a way for applicants to show that they possess the necessary knowledge and skills.

Is the unofficial DAT score accurate? ›

Within approximately two weeks of taking your DAT, your scores will be verified, at which point they become official. These official, verified scores should be the same as those listed on your unofficial score report except in very rare cases. These scores will be sent to all the dental schools you apply to.

Candidates with three (3) or more attempts on the DAT must apply for permission to test again, providing proof of recent application to dental school with each subsequent application to test. Subsequent to the candidate's fifth DAT attempt, the candidate may retest only once per 12-month period.

You should consider retaking the DAT if…

This would mean that your score is more than one point below the average scores of accepted students at your target schools. Additionally, your score should be more than one point above the average scores of your “undershoot” schools.

You will receive a scaled score for each section of the DAT, along with a composite score. This will provide you with an average of your overall performance on the exam. The average DAT score is around 17.

What makes the DAT difficult is the large amount of subject matter that it covers, as well as the length of the test. The exam covers an array of subjects, encompassing a large amount of information. It is a 4 hour and 15-minute exam, not including the recommended breaks, that is broken into 6 sections.

DAT scale scores range from 1 to 30. A scale score of 19 typically signifies average performance on a national basis.

DENTAL APTITUDE TEST SCORE SCALE

The Dental Aptitude Test (DAT) is scored using the DAT standard score scale. The standard score scale is an ability-referenced scale that ranges from 1 to 30.

Has Anyone Gotten a Perfect Score on the MCAT? Though getting the highest score on MCAT is a challenging feat, some prospective med school students have gotten a perfect score. The highest possible MCAT score is 528.

The cream of the crop will come in at the 98th percentile or better, with scores of 22-23, putting them in the top 2% of test-takers. While the section scores on the DAT average 17, it is important to note that the Academic Average score required for admittance into most dental schools is 19.
