Several years ago, I was looking for ways to get nourishing bone broth into my kids diet and that is when I came up with this recipe. They love the flavor of the broth in this Chili. I used several techniques to getting just the right flavors into this Chile. I used roasted tomatoes with green chilis, tamari and homemade bone broth. The molasses and apple cider vinegar gives it a bit tangy and sweet flavor. I actually felt guilty keeping this recipe from you guys because it is SO good! I make this almost every week, sometimes I even double this batch to have two tubs in the freezer handy. My kids love these with organic corn dippers from Trader Joe’s. I like mine with sweet potato chips.

In order to make this Homemade Chili Recipe with Kidney beans, you will want to have all your ingredients handy next to your stockpot. I love to cook this chili in my Le Creuset Dutch Oven. I absolutely love this enameled cast iron pot! I can use it on the stove top and in the oven, it has a lifetime limited warranty and will last for a very long time with proper care! (Mine is in Caribbean, of course!)

Heat your stockpot to medium heat, add your avocado oil and onions. Sauté for 5 minutes. Then add your ground beef and ground turkey. (Whenever possible, please buy grass-fed beef and free-range turkey.) Sauté your meat and break it apart into smaller pieces. It will take about 5 minutes for the meat to cook through. Next, you will add all your remaining ingredients, cover with a lid and allow it to simmer for about 13-15 minutes. Turn off heat and add your salt and pepper to taste. The secret to this recipe is having a delicious homemade Chicken Bone Broth. It is worth it to have some bone broth stored in the freezer in small 2 cup containers so you can use it for this Homemade Chili Recipe with Kidney Beans or other stews.

Bone broth has gelatin and amino acids in it that nourish the lining of the gut, making it a much healthier environment for beneficial bacteria to live in. A healthy gut = a healthy immune system so I do my best to include bone broth in as many recipes as possible. This Homemade Chili Recipe with Kidney Beans is a family favorite and my kids can’t even taste the bone broth in it! When my daughter asked me to teach her how to make this homemade chili, she was very surprised that I added bone broth, because to be honest, she dislikes it! She used to love chicken soup, and for the last two years, she has despised it, so I get it into her diet in other ways. The funny thing is, when I make this, she says, “Mom, make sure you give me lots of broth!” I just smile but inside I feel super awesome like whenSteve Urkel Got Down!

I like to add cayenne pepper and freshly cracked pepper to my own bowl of chili to crank up the heat so if you have some family members that like their Chili Beans really spicy, (like I do) you can leave a shaker of cayenne pepperand apepper grinder at the table.
